Congratulations to our young Spa Set Dancers who featured last night Friday 3rd May dancing The Plain Set, on RTE during the Fleadh Ceoil programme. This group of dancers came 3rd last year in Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann Drogheda, in the under twelve’s category and are pupils of Triona and Mairead Mangan.

Our two well-known music teachers, Nickie, and Anne McAuliffe featured this morning Saturday 4th May on Radio Kerry’s Saturday Supplement with Joe McGill. They were interviewed in their home in Castleisland and spoke extensively of their years of playing and enjoying music and the numerous instruments they play, their awards and travels.   Nickie spoke of the sterling work of Fr Pat Ahern in Siamsa Tire and the numerous tours around the world they were privileged to be on. Nickie also paid tribute to the late Michael O Sullivan and Sean O Riada. Joe McGill congratulated the couple on numerous accolades they have gleaned. Anne announced that they had recently received The Hall of Fame Award during The Maurice O’ Keeffe Festival in Kiskeam.

We learned that Anne is also an accomplished painter and Nickie is a poet and keen photographer. The accomplished couple played feet tapping music a number of these gems were composed by Nickie. When asked what their favorite tune was Anne said she especially loved” The Dawn Reel”. Closing the interview both Nickie and Anne said the loved teaching music and delighted in hearing and seeing their pupils enjoying playing music.

The interview concluded with Nickie reading one of his poems and both Nickie and Anne played a selection of tunes including “The Road to Castleisland” Nickies own composition.  Our branch is indebted to Nickie and Ann for the years of dedicated teaching they have been doing for us.

Stewards needed for Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí, please contact any member of the committee.

Our next branch meeting will be held in the meeting Rooms Park Road Tuesday 21st May at 9 pm.
