At our monthly meeting last Tuesday night   our Chairman Eoin Ó’Carra had exciting news regarding music sessions. He has secured a room in The Parish Hall on Saint Anne’s Road. These music sessions will begin on Saturday 13th May from 6pm to 8pm and will be run on a monthly basis. All musicians welcome to participate but this session is not suitable for beginners. It is desirable that under age children be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please contact Grainne for more information   on 087 6543884.

 

County Board Delegates, Geraldine Guilfoyle and Linda O’Donohue gave a comprehensive report on the Co Board meeting held last weekend.

 

 A vote of congratulations and well done was passed to all our dancers who took part at the Comhaltas Spraoi na nÓg competition in the Gleneagle Hotel last weekend. What a joy to see ninety one sets danced by young  participants from U9 to U18. Counties represented included counties Galway, Clare, Cork and Kerry

Traditional music competition ‘Street Entertainment’ competition as part of Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí 2017 Tralee will be on Friday the 19th of May in Tralee from 5.00p.m. To 7.00 p.m.  The deadline for enrolment is set for Friday 12th May.  The prize money for this competition will be €500 for 1st place, €250 for 2nd place and €150 for 3rd place.

 There is a registration fee of €5 per group. All groups must have pre-registered to take part.  Each group may have a minimum of 3 participants and a maximum of 6 participants.   The age limit is a minimum of 9 years old with no senior limit, therefore the category dictates that participants are ‘9 years and over’.    There will be 3 or 4 designated performance areas in Tralee town.   Groups will be allocated a 20/30 minute time slot (time slots shall be dependent on volume of entry.) Time slots at each performance area will be staggered by ten minutes to allow the adjudicator to have sufficient time with each group. Adjudicator(s) who will visit each group at least once and possibly twice during their time slot.  Results will be given on the main gig rig in the Square Tralee, immediately after the competition, as soon as the adjudicator has had time to finalise their decision.

This year’s opening Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí Concert will be live on the web. The concert will take place on Wednesday 17th May in the Rose Hotel from 8pm and will be opened by Tadhg Ó Maolcatha, Cathaoirleach CCÉ Comhairle na Mumhan. A link will be advertised in the coming days prior to Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí

 

Because of the numerous Fleadhanna all our members and officers will be busy with dancing and music tuition it was decided to not hold branch meetings for June, July and August.
