There’s a lot going on in Listowel this week, so we’ll focus on all of that and hope to see you there. These events are listed more or less in order by day and start times:

On Thursday evening, March 16, there’s a monster trad session at Christy’s Bar – that’s the word from Christy himself


On Friday, St. Patrick’s Day, there’s lots to take in and enjoy in Listowel:

12:45 – 1:15 pm – Listowel CCE will have a performance stage on William Street, featuring CCE instructors and students. Thank you to our sponsor Garveys SuperValu Listowel.

1:15 pm – the Listowel St. Patrick’s Day parade kicks off


Immediately following the parade – trad session at the Star & Garter, featuring No Strings Attached


2 – 6 pm – the Seanchai Centre is hosting a special St. Patrick’s Day Rambling House


Sunday, March 19 – Just to round out the weekend, the Star & Garter hosts another trad session starting at 5 pm

Saturday, March 18 – NO CCE CLASSES

Saturday, March 25 CCE’s new term starts at the Seanchai and you can register in person that day. New students are especially welcome J There will be classes in tin whistle, flute, fiddle, concertina, banjo, accordion, guitar, bodhran, and instrumental group; there are also classes in singing, dancing, and Irish language. Cost for the 10-week term is €60 for children and €100 for adults. Class meeting dates are:

                March 25

                April 1, 8, 22

                May 6, 13, 20, 27

                June 3, 10

A few more dates to remember:

  • Thursday, March 23 – Matt Dean event at Seanchaí Centre: focus on Galician music with JuanFran MetalCambra – 8:30 – 10 pm; tickets at the door are €5 for adults and €3 for kids. Immediately followed by a session at Christy’s Bar.
  • Saturday, April 1 – last day to register for Fleadh Cheoil Chiarrai 2017 – more about that next week
  • May 17-21 – Fleadh Cheoil Chiarrai 2017, Tralee – more about that next week also
  • Summer 2018 – Drogheda has been chosen to host the 2018 Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann. Lots more to follow in future as plans are developed.
