To The Children of Killorglin

Though the evening was June, there were clouds in the sky,
But the heavens were kind and they all drifted by.
The sunbeams came out, shining brightly and sweet
On all the young children who danced in the street.
The stage it was set and the music did roll
So fair and refreshing to body and soul.
‘Twas the spirit of Ireland flowing fondly and free
When they danced in Killorglin at Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí.

I will not mention names, lest I’d leave any out,
But still in my heart, they keep dancing about.
For I love every one of those girls and boys
With sweet smiling lips and lovely bright eyes.
So here’s to the children who live by the Laune,
Little gems to adorn every fond memory’s crown.
For all through my life, they’ll come stealing to me-
The dear ones of Killorglin and Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí.
