Harpers for Heritage

When: 2pm Saturday August 25th 2018 Where:The Schoolhouse at Muckross

Celebrate Heritage Week with acclaimed harpers from Cruit Éireann, Harp Ireland in the first of its 2018 Irish Harping concert series. Killarney, Co Kerry sets the scene for this first event where Cruit Éireann, Harp Ireland, in collaboration with Muckross House and Traditional Farms, and with the support of the Arts Council, presents an extravaganza of harp playing at The Schoolhouse, Muckross House, Gardens & Traditional Farms to connect with our harping heritage during National Heritage Week 2018. “We are delighted to join with the Heritage Council in promoting awareness and education about our heritage to conserve and preserve it”, says Toddy Doyle Farm and Events Manager at Muckross. “What better way to connect with our communities than with the Irish harp, our national symbol”

The theme for European Year of Heritage in Ireland is ‘Make a Connection’ which aims to deepen the connection between people and heritage, and build a legacy of increased public engagement. “Harpers from all over Kerry and further afield will be sharing their stories and music from their thousand year old tradition in the Schoolhouse at Muckross at 2pm on Saturday” says Dingle harper Deirdre Granville, who is leading the event for Cruit Éireann, Harp Ireland “This is a chance to share our harping heritage in new ways. Our cultural heritage belongs to everyone. We want people to enjoy the harp, learn about it and share it”.

Harpers performing on the day include Michelle Mulcahy, Fiana Ní Chonaill and  Cuisle Harp Ensemble, Deirdre Granville & The Kerry Harp Ensemble, Reidun Schlesinger, Paul de Grae, Marina Biddy Blyth and many more.

The event will be free of charge but donations are welcome.
