Play your part in Trad for Trócaire and help communities around the world fight climate change

How you can get involved!

2015 marks the sixth year of Trad for Trócaire. Since its inception in 2010, over 1,500 Trad events have taken place across Ireland and also in the UK and USA. Over €560,000 has been raised by passionate and enthusiastic musicians and Trad fans – young and old alike! This money is now supporting communities in many countries across the developing world who are suffering daily with extreme poverty and injustice.

Organise a Trad for Trócaire session in your locality.

Whether you are planning your event in Ireland or abroad, everyone is invited to play their part in Trad for Trócaire 2015. If you would like us to post you a free Trad for Trócaire pack, email us at trad@trocaire.org. This free fundraising pack contains everything you need to start organising your Trad for Trócaire session! When you have your session planned, register your session with us and we will add the details to our Trad for Trócaire listings.

In 2014, people held hundreds of Trad for Trócaire sessions all across the country and raised a total of €65,000/£48,500.

Trad for Trócaire is a partnership between Trócaire and Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann that celebrates Ireland’s deep musical heritage and our long history of goodwill towards people facing poverty. The campaign began after the devastating Haiti earthquake in 2010 when well-known trad band, The Usual Suspects, busked from Dublin to Galway collecting donations to help Trócaire carry out vital emergency work and rebuilding projects. Soon after, Trócaire and Comhaltas joined forces spreading the generosity of Ireland’s traditional Irish music community far and wide.

The traditional Irish music group of Clongowes Wood College have been involved in Trad for Trocaire for the past three years. We asked the college how they have found the experience. This is what they had to say:

"It has become the highlight of the traditional Irish music group’s calendar and is a fantastic opportunity for the young musicians to perform in an informal setting, while at the same time raising, much needed, funds for Trocaire. To date, our group has raised over €1000."

Trad icons Dervish travelled to Zimbabwe in March 2014 and visited Trócaire funded schools and healthcare projects. Watch this great video of Dervish playing a Trad for Trócaire set for the children in a Trócaire supported school. Your support works!

This year we are linking Trad for Trócaire with our livelihoods programme in Zimbabwe. You can find this information on our website.
