Ceol an Geimhridh County Finals will take place on Saturday 12th November in the IT Tralee and on Sunday the dancing will take place in Fossa Community Centre. Closing date for entries to County Secretary will be Thursday, 27th October, 2016. The Munster final on 5th February in Dromcollogher Co Limerick.

Sult na Nog will take place on 4th and 5th March. Again in the IT Tralee and Fossa Community Centre.

A great night was held in The Three Counties Bar in Brosna last Friday night to celebrate the achievements of both Gearoid and Darragh Curtin at this years Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann. There were a great turn of musicians and supporters and the session when well into the night.

Kerry County Board will host this years Concert tour of Ireland. A show of top class musicians Singers and Dancers will perform in Siamsa Tire on Tuesday 18th October at 8pm. Tickets can be purchased from any of the branches and also from Siamsa Tire Tralee. Kerry CCE AGM will be held on 1st November at 7.30pm in the Brandon Hotel Tralee. All branches should now have a date for their branch AGM made. If you have not send the date to County PRO please do so immediately.

3rd October 2016

A very successful Céilí and Set Dancing Adjudicator seminar was held in Cois na hAbhna Ennis Co Clare on Sunday last. A very enjoyable day with great discussion & a bit of dancing thrown in too. A large number from Kerry attended the seminar.

A great turnout for the Jack Lyons and Jimmy Fitzgerald tribute weekend was held in Kilcoolys Ballybunion. A special mention to Darragh Curtin and Gearoid Dineen who were special guests on the night. A lovely item on the night was the playing of all the Fiddle players with this years All Ireland Senior Champion.

An Oiche Cheoil will be held at Kennelly’s Bar, Ballylongford at 8.30pm this Friday night the 9th October to celebrate Timmy O’Flaherty’s huge success at the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil. Come along and listen to the All-Ireland Champion, and many other musicians play Irish Traditional Music. A mighty session is in store

County Board meeting was held last Thursday night in the Brandon Hotel Tralee and the the venue and date for Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí 2017 was announced. After a hugely successful event in Tralee this year an application from Tralee CCE on behalf of the four branches who hosted this years event Tralee CCE, Sliabh Mish CCE, Naomh Breandain CCE and Lixnaw CCE to host Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí 2017 was accepted and the dates for Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí 2017 to be held in Tralee were confirmed for May 18th to 21st May. Ceol an Geimhridh County Final  will take on Saturday 12th November in the IT Tralee and on Sunday the dancing will take place in Fossa Community Centre. The Munster final on 5th February. Sult na Nog will take place on 4th and 5th March. And 2017 Munster Convention will take place on 19th February in Mallow. Fleadh na Mumhan will be held in Cork City from 20th to 23rd July 2017. This weekend a tribute to Jack Lyons and Jimmy Fitzgerald takes place in Kilcoolys Ballybunion. On Friday night is Fiddle night and they are inviting all Fiddlers to come along and take part in the night. All other musicians are also welcome. Sunday will see a Ceili in Kilcoolys from 3 to 6pm music by Ui Bhriain. Concert Tour of Ireland comes to Kerry again this year. Kerry County Board will host this fantastic event in Siamsa Tire on Tuesday 18th October at 8pm. This is a wonderful show to see Irelands top talent come together to produce a top class concert. Kerry CCE were well represented last weekend at Comhaltas Head office, Cultúrlann na hÉireann Dublin at Tinól Leo Rowsome as Assunta Uí Chathasaigh Munster Secretary was awarded Gradam an Chomhaltais on Friday night, the weekend of Ceol, Craic & Celebration was a tribute to Assunta Uí Chathasaig. Those who attended from Kerry were Chairman Tony O Connor, Secretary Tadhg Creedon, PRO John Stack and delegates to Munster Geraldine and Maurice Guilfoyle. Comhghairdeas Assunta on a wonderful occasion from Kerry CCE and its members.

This Friday night 16th September there will be a FREE Ceili to celebrate Culture Night in Fossa Communiy Centre with the Uí Bhriaín Ceilí Band hosted by Kerry CCÉ. Tea/coffees & refreshments served. Everybody welcome. Branches throughout Kerry will also be holding events.

County Board meeting will take place in the Brandon Tralee on Thursday 22nd September at 8pm. Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí dates/venue will be confirmed on that night. Concert Tour of Ireland will be coming to Kerry on Tuesday 18th October. More details next week. Tune into Caint Chiarraí this Sunday evening when Darragh and Gearoid Curtin from Brosna CCE will be guests of Marian O Flaherty from 8pm. After a very busy summer we return with our weekly notes for Kerry CCE. A huge congratulations to all the members from around the County who took part in this years All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil in Ennis. There was great success at this event with 17 gold, 8 Silver and 13 Bronze coming home to Kerry. 38 placings was a huge achievement for Kerry and we congratulate them all. Congrats to Listowel on a brilliantly run Fleadh na Mumhan. It certainly lived up to all the expections. There will be a County board meeting in September date and venue tbc. Branches are already starting to paln their AGM’s, please inform the County PRO when you set your date. Classes will now be starting up in all branches shortly and we will be advertising them our website as they are reported to us. Culture night will take place on Friday 16th September. Reminding everyone closing date for entries to this years Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí is fast approaching, Contact your branch secretary ASAP with entries into this years Fleadh which will be held in Tralee from 18th to 22nd May. Next County Board meeting April 19th in the Ceolann Lixnaw. What can only be described as a wonderful experience to see what Composer Michael Rooney put together for the Suite of Music to celebrate the Centenary of the 1916 Rising can be described in one word SURPERB. Those of us who were lucky enough to get tickets in this sold out event were treated to a wonderful night of Music Song and Narration in the Lime Tree Theatre Limerick by the National Folk Orchestra of Ireland conducted by Michael Rooney. Guiding you through the History of Ireland from the Famine to the present day we were entertained through the night by an uplifting and Mysticial performance from a talented group of Musicians and singers. Well done Michael Rooney and well done to all the performers on stage who treated us to an amazing nights entertainment. In St Johns Theatre Listowel 7th April Four Men And A Dog will perform included in the lineup Donal Murphy Cathal Hayden Kevin Doherty Stephen Hayden Gino Lupari. Seisiun Brosna Comhaltas will be holding a music seisiun in The Woodview Bar, Brosna on this Friday 8th of April 7-9pm. Also this Friday night 8th CCE Sliabh Mish are holding a charity concert and ceili in the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney to raise funds for two local charities, Recovery Haven & Jigsaw Kerry. The night promises to be great night of music, singing and dancing that will appeal to any audience. We could have done with jigs and reels at times to stay warm but its all going towards the running of our May Co Fleadh. The Macalla 1916 suite composed by Michael Rooney and performed by the National Folk Orchestra of Ireland will take place in City Hall Cork on this Tuesday at 8pm. Finally at the Ard Chomhairle meeting of Comhaltas Saturday 19th March in Dublin, it was announced that this years recipient of 'Gradam an Chomhaltais' will be Munster Secretary Assunta Ui Chathasaigh. It is the supreme accolade of the Organisation and is in recognition of her many years of dedicated service to the organisation at all levels. The award will be presented in September at a weekend in Cultúrlann na hÉireann Dublin. Comhghairdeas Assunta from The Board of Kerry CCE and all their members. On the feast day of St Patricks Tralee has given the honour to Kerry Comhaltas to lead this years parade. There will also be some Traditional Music in the Square afterwards so why not wander to the small square in Tralee and get a taste of what will be in store in May at this year’s Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí.  On 13th April Weeshie Fogarty will feature Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí and Comhaltas in Kerry on his programme “In Conversation with” and then on Saturday 16th April a street collection will take place in the town of Tralee and in Manor Shopping centre. If you would be able to help on this day as a collector your help would be very much appreciated. Fleadh Chiarraí Meeting on this Tuesday in the IT Tralee at 8pm. Events taking place this week include Ballybunion CCE Oiche Cheoil on Wednesday 16th March in the Railway Bar Ballybunion at 9.30pm also on the same night Lixnaw CCE. In conjunction with Seachtain na Gaeilge Lixnaw CCE branch are holding a fundraising quiz in Walsh's at 8.30pm. As the evenings begin to stretch the Comhlaltas season is getting busier. Plans are at an advanced stage for this years Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí which will be held in Tralee from May 18th to 22nd. A full outdoor and indoor programme has been put together for the event and this an be found on the website. Craobh Naomh Breandain Comhaltas are holding a fundraising clothes collection on Saturday March 12th at Cuil Mhuire Ardfert (beside the church) between 11am and 2pm in aid of Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí. This Thursday in St. John's Theatre Listowel the best of Tradition will feature Donegal fiddle player Bríd Harper, Tony O Connell concertina and Gearóid Ó Duinnín guitar. Traditional fundraising variety concert by West Limerick traditional singing club will take place on Saturday March 12th in Fr Caseys GAA club Abbeyfeale. The concert will include a variety of Traditional Musicians, Singers, Storytellers and dancers all for just €10. Please support. A new Parental Release form has now been uploaded to the website. Last weekend saw our annual finals of Sult na Nog taking place in both the IT Tralee and Fossa Community Centre. Numbers this year rose to new heights as entries touched 470 entries. Saturday was a hive of activity in the IT as Musicians singers storytellers and comhra competitors gathering in the IT Tralee to compete. The standard again this seem to rise and it was great to see all the children getting their chance to take part in this wonderful competition. On Sunday Fossa Community Hall was packed as Set and Ceili dancers filled the venue. Each group took the stage and were greeted with a warm welcome form the audience. Children from as young as 7 were taking part for the first time on stage and was a wonderful sight to see these young competitors taking part. A special thanks to all those who helped over the weekend and to those who came forward on Saturday morning to help was fantastic. Your help over the weekend over the weekend was very appreciative. To the management and staff of both the IT Tralee and Fossa Community Centre we are indeed grateful to you and thank you for your co operation.  Branch meeting this week in Kilcummin CCE on Tuesday night. Ballydonoghue CCE Annual branch concert will take place this Friday March 4th in Tomaisin s hall at 7.30pm. This is always a very entertaining evening and your support would be appreciated. This weekend coming up will see hundreds of competitors converge on the Tralee IT on Saturday and Fossa Community Centre on Sunday when the County finals of Sult na Nog will take place. On Saturday Music, Singing, Storytelling and Comhrá will take place in the IT, then on Sunday the dancers will perform in Fossa. Both days start at 10.30am. There are big entries this year and the county board are looking for stewards and clerks for 9 venues. If there is anyone available to assist contact Tadhg Creedon Co. Congratulations to all those who represented Kerry and those who were successful on Sunday last 14th February at the Munster final of Comhairle Na Mumhan Ceol an Geimhridh finals. The full results can be found on the website.

Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí committee will have a meeting on this Tuesday in the IT Tralee at 7.45pm.

Fleadh na Mumhan Lios Tuathail will hold a public meeting on Monday next 22nd February in Christys The Well Listowel. We would like to invite the public to attend and get involved in this special event for Listowel. Big news this week is that Emma O Sullivan from Galway will host a Sean Nos Dancing workshop on Thursday evening 14th July. More info regards this year’s Fleadh Cheoil Programme will be released at next week’s meeting.

Tralee will host this year’s Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí. This event will take place from May 18th to 22nd. Some of the entertainment in Tralee will include Trad Bands, No Strings Attached, and Seven Glens both young and vibrant Trad Bands as well as Uí Bhriain and the Johnny Reidy Ceilí Band playing for Ceili. Branches including Tralee, Lixnaw, Sliabh Mis, and Naomh Breandain as well as others will also perform during the Fleadh. Both Naomh Breandan and Lixnaw CCE held very successful Cloths Collections in aid of Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí. Sliabh Mis and Tralee will hold there collection in the coming weeks.

It’s a huge week for Traditional Music Singing and Dancing in Kerry this week as The Gathering Killarney will take place. A highlight of Irish cultural calendar. This year's programme includes a superb mix of live concerts, set dance classes, instrument workshops and lectures. The festival brings together young and old, from near and far, for a truly unique festival. It runs from 17th - 21st February 2016.

Sult na Nog is taking place on 27th/28th February. Closing date for all entries to County Secretary for Sult na Nog is this Thursday 18th February to County Secretary. No entries accepted after this date. Please contact your local Secretary to get information about your entry ASAP.

RTÉ 1 Series on Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann Sligo 2015 concludes this Friday at 8.30pm. This is a series of six television programmes presented by John Creedon and Aoibhinn Ní Shuilleabháin.

Ballydonoghue CCE branch will hold their Church gate Collection on next weekend and will also hold their Annual Waltzing and Set Competition. 

Knocknalucha Rambling House Knocknagoshel takes place this Tuesday. 

The Kilkenny's will perform at St Johns Arts Theatre Listowel on this Thursday 18th February at 8pm. The Best of Irish Traditional music, folk and ballads will be performed by this four piece group who play drums, mandolin, banjo, guitar, flute, bodhran and whistles. 

Causeway CCE annual Feis takes place next Sunday 21st February in the hall of Causeway Comprehensive school from 10am. 

Kilcummin CCE Sunday music session will take place on Sunday next 21st February from 2.30 to 5pm in Kilcummin Recreational Hall. All welcome.

This coming Sunday 14th February sees the Munster final of Comhairle Na Mumhan Ceol an Geimhridh finals 2016 being held in Hazelwood College Dromcollogher, Co Limerick. We would like to wish all our competitors the very best of luck.

Wednesday evening Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí committee will have a meeting in the IT Tralee at 7.45pm. As part of their fundraising activities Fleadh Cheoil Committee would like to thank everyone who contributed to their Bag Packing in Garveys Tralee last Saturday.

Fleadh na Mumhan will hold a public meeting on Monday 22nd February in Christys The Well Listowel. We would like to invite the public to attend and get involved in this special event for Listowel

Last weekend Lixnaw CCE welcomed Guth an Phobail ar Nuacht TG4 to their Annual Feile Feabhra in the Ceolann Lixnaw. From their recordings on Saturday they will produce a two minute feature called Guth an Phobail (Voice of the Community) for Nuacht on TG4.

Branch Meetings arranged for this week include Ballybunion CCE meeting Wednesday February 10th at 7.15pm in Cove Cafe. Killarney CCE will meet on Thursday 11th February. This meeting will be held in Eoin O Carra's house at 9pm. Ballydonoghue CCE branch meeting on Friday 12th February at 8.30 in Lisselton school.

Also this weekend will see CCE Barr na Sraide host their Annual concert on Friday 12th at 8pm in the Ring of Kerry Hotel Caherciveen. Joining Barr na Sraide on the night will be Gearoid Keating (banjo) and Mairead Corridon (concertina) and friends. A great night of music, song and dance guaranteed. Saturday will see workshops in Music and Dance. Banjo with Gearoid Keating and Concertina with Mairead Corridon. John Joyce from Galway will give a workshop in Sean Nós Dancing. Last Thursday night Fleadh na Mumhan Officers and heads of Committee from Listowel including Munster Chairman Tadhg Mulcahy met in Christys. A very productive and detailed meeting addressed alot of issues regarding this years Fleadh na Mumhan. Halls are booked and officials met with the fire officer last week to put venues in place. Members of the committee are at present meeting businesses around the town and so far the support has been fantastic. They will continue to get around to all the businesses in town and we hope the whole town will continue to support them. Ceilí bands and workshops are being confirmed with the artists. These will be announced at the next  meeting. Fleadh na Mumhan will hold a public meeting on Monday 22nd February in Christys The Well Listowel. We would invite the public to attend and get involved in this special event for Listowel

Tralee will host this years Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí. This event will take place from May 18th to 22nd. A large group of delegates attended last Friday nights Cruinniú Coiste Chontae of CCE in the Meadowlands Hotel Tralee. A good and productive meeting took place with items including Munster finals of Ceol an Geimhridh, Sult na Nog County Finals, an update on the Culture Building, as well as a final report from Fleadh Chiarrai 2015. The committee who worked so hard in Cahersiveen were widely congratulated and thanked for their hard work and commitment during the two years. Reports on both this year’s Fleadh Cheoil in Chiarraí Tralee and Fleadh na Mumhan Listowel were reported on and great progress are been made in both events. Some of the entertainment in Tralee will include Trad Bands No Strings Attached and Seven Glens both young and vibrant Trad Bands as well as Uí Bhriain and Johnny Reidy Ceilí Band playing for Ceili. Congratulations to Karen Trench Ballydonoghue/Lisselton CCE who was appointed Kerry CCE County Assistant Secretary on the night. Karen will be taking over the Secretary position at this year County AGM from Tadhg Creedon who will be stepping down from his position as per the 5 year rule. We wish Karen all the best in her new position.

A very Informative and helpful meeting was held in the Devon Inn Hotel Templeglantine between officers and heads of Fleadh na Mumhan Listowel and members of Nenagh Fleadh na Mumhan 2015. Nenagh brought their help and ideas on the running of last year’s Fleadh na Mumhan and informed the members of Listowel. After running such a successful and entertaining Fleadh in 2015 they had a lot to offer to Listowel which was very much appreciated. 

Those who qualified for this year’s Comhairle Na Mumhan Ceol an Geimhridh 2016 are putting in some last minute practice and we wish them all the best. The finals will take place on Sunday 14th February at the Hazelwood College Dromcollogher, Co Limerick.

Some of the entertainment will include Trad Bands No Strings Attached and Seven Glens both young and vibrant  Trad Bands as well as Uí Bhriain and Johnny Reidy Ceilí Band playing for Ceili. The Fleadh committee must be congratulated on their approach and the way they are going about hosting this event. All those who qualified for this year’s Comhairle na Mumhan Ceolan Geimhridh 2016 are at present practicing we wish them all the best. This will take place on Sunday 14th February at the Hazelwood College Dromcollogher, Co Limerick.Fleadh na Mumhan committee will confirm their venues shortly and also their programme. There is a lot of work going on at present setting out the ground work and putting everything in order. The programme will shortly be available. Last Saturday night in the Travel Inn Killarney, Fossa Twomile CCE held their Annual Rambling House. A brilliant night’s entertainment was given by all the entertainers to a packed and intimate venue. During the night everyone was treated to some refreshments as well as some brack and hot food. Young and not so young took to the floor and displayed their talents to the audience. One by one the artists sang a song, Danced a step or played a tune to the much appreciative audience. Many thanks to the Management and staff of the Travel Inn Killarney on helping the local branch, and putting their premises at the branches disposal. A huge thanks to Chairman Tim Kissane  and all the officers for putting on a most enjoyable night and we look forward to next year’s one already. Sult na Nog 27th/28th February. A packed St Aghtas hall in Glenflesk last Friday night when the the local Glenflesk branch of Comhaltas held their Annual Christmas Concert. It was a night of Music Song Dance as well as fun and laughter as the members of the branch and local schools took to the stage to show off their talents. From as young as 4 years of age, these young members entertained the packed hall, each of them getting applause from the attentive audience. From step dancing to Ceili, and dancing different sets from around the area put that together with the fantastic music and singing the future looks bright in Glenflesk CCE. Congratulations to all the local branch officers and committee members on putting on a fabulous nights entertainment with these young people. A special mention too to all the wonderful teachers, who continue to work hard to keep our tradition alive. Some events coming up over the Christmas period. There is a Set Ceili on in Marian Hall Moyvane on 27th December from 3 to 6pm in aid of North Kerry MS. Ballydonoghue CCE branch will hold an Irish night on December 28th in Brosnans Bar Listowel. All musicians and singers welcome. Tuosist/Kenmare branch CCE are holding a Rambling house on December 29th in the Lake House dance hall Tuosist all are welcome. And on January 1st West Limerick Singing session will be held in  the Ramble Inn bar, Abbeyfeale starting at 9pm all are welcome. Quite period in the Comhaltas calendar at present. A very successful traditional dancing workshop was held in Mallow last week. Members from Kerry travelled to the workshop and enjoyed their day. Congrats to Munster Council who organised this event. Fleadh Cheoil Chiarrai are at present working away behind the scenes and getting everything in place for next years event. There are organising a number of fundraising events over the coming months and are at present organising a Cloth Collection as a fundraiser. We would ask everyone to try and help the host branches Tralee, Lixnaw, Sliabh Mish, and Naomh Breandan with this venture. Lixnaw CCE as joint hosts are at present looking for donations of old cloths. They will be accepting bags of cloths in the Ceolann Lixnaw during classes up to the 12th December at 2pm. Your support would be greatly appreciated with this venture. All branches are getting ready for Christmas at present with some of the branches organising concerts and Oiche Cheoils. This Thursday night Causeway CCE are having a meeting at 8.30pm in Yallops bar Causeway. West Limerick Singing club will host their Monthly singing session in the Ramble Bar in Abbeyfeale on Friday night, and on Saturday night 5th in St Johns Theatre Listowel Sheila Garry, Fiddle and Elaine Hogan, Harp featuring the music of Paddy Donoghue from Tulla, East Clare will launch their album The Shores of Lough Breda. The album will be launched by Danny O'Mahony leader of the Shannonvale Ceili Band, also performing at the launch will be Cyril O’Donoghue, Bouzouki and James Dubby, Bodhan. Handed Down Heritage Centre, Scartaglin, December12th will see On the Road with Maurice O’Keeffe in Sliabh Luachra. Maura O’Keeffe & Paddy Jones; Emma O’Leary & John Carroll; Niamh McSweeney & Friends Songs with Patrick O’Sullivan

What a Brilliant night in the INEC Killarney last night 21st November when over 400 artists took to the stage. A very entertaining and varied concert took place and those who did not attend were the losers as the whole night turned into a spectacular piece event. The show demonstrated the high standard of all the Musicians Singers and Dancers which included the "In Tune For Life" orchestra directed by Ned Kelly, world champion step dancer David Geaney, Thomas MacDonagh pipe band, Nora Butler, Tadhg Maher, 2015 Rose Of Tralee Elysha Brennan, Munster Rugby Supporters Choir, Numerous all-Ireland champions, Primary School students from Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, and Laois and a host of others. MC on the night was Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh and he brought his own wit and humour to the nights proceedings. There certainly was one winner on the night and that was 

Donal Walsh ‪#â€Å½livelife foundation. Well done to Elma and Finbar Walsh and everyone involved in this very emotional night. Last weekend saw 2 days of activity as our members competed in the County finals of Ceol an Geimhridh. Saturday saw the IT Tralee a hive of activity as Musicians and Singers took part and on Sunday it was the turn of the dancers as they competed in Fossa Community Centre. We would like to wish all those who have qualified for the Munster finals to be held in Limerick in February the very best of luck. Ballybunion CCE will hold an Oiche cheoil on Friday 20th November in the Railway Bar Ballybunion. All are welcome. A Workshop with Michael Tubridy will be held on Sunday 22nd November in the Hibernian Hotel, Mallow from 11.00am to 4.30pm. Contact your branch secretary for details. Then 2 big events will be held in Killarney over next weekend. Torc Hotel Killarney will host the Set Dancing weekend on Friday Saturday and Sunday. With plenty of sets to be danced. A very special evening will take place on the 21st November in the INEC. The show features the 90 piece "In Tune For Life" orchestra. All-Ireland champion set dancers, world champion step dancer David Geaney, traditional musicians from all over Ireland, the Munster Rugby supporters choir, Nora Butler, and numerous other singers including the 2015 Rose Of Tralee, not to mention over 200 of our primary school children. In all nearly 450 performers will showcase their talents in aid of that fantastic organisation "the Donal Walsh live life Foundation". Please join us along with the Walsh family on November 21st in the INEC Killarney for what promises to be a feast of Irish music, song and dance. A night not to be missed. Kilcummin CCE will continue with their music session from 2.30 to 5pm in the Recreational Hall Kilcummin. Join them for a few tunes or just to listen. Glenflesk Rambling House takes place next Saturday 21st November at 8pm in St. Agatha's Community Centre. A great night of music song and craic is assured and cupan tae! All welcome.
